Today a trip to Val Colla and more precisely to Monte Cucco, passing through the San Lucio Pass.
I start to climb from the village of Certara along the path that leads to Alpe La Corte. Once past the alp, I continue following the dirt road that leads to the San Lucio Pass. Just before the pass, I make a small diversions northwards to have a look at the Alpe di Cottino hut, after which I finally climb to the pass. On the pass there is a church dedicated to San Lucio and two mountain huts, one in Italian territory (Rifugio San Lucio) and one further down in Swiss territory (Capanna San Lucio). From the pass there is also a magnificent view over the entire Val Cavargna.
After a break, I start walking again in a southerly direction, across the wide pastures that lead to Monte Cucco. After one last easy climb, I am at the top of the mountain, where there is a boundary stone and a signpost. After descending on the other side, I decide to take a detour to the Colmo di San Bernardo, after which I descend along the dirt road that leads back to Alpe La Corte. From here, along the same path of the outward journey, I return in a short time to Certara.
With regard to water, there are several fountains in Certara and then one more at an altitude of 1116 metres, near the junction with the road (coordinates 2'725'627, 1'104'896). There is also a fountain at Alpe La Corte and finally one more at Passo San Lucio, north of the Italian refuge.
