For this trip we decided to climb to Monte Bar from the north and more precisely from Val di Serdena.
This valley was requisitioned by the soldiers of Isone and it is not possible to access it except, as a rule, on Sundays and public holidays.
Once we reach the altitude of 1407 meters, we begin to walk along a beautiful path in the direction of Alpe Matro. Once you have passed the alp, you continue to climb eastwards until you reach an unnamed mouth close to the point at 1644 metres (point 3). At this point we turn west and continue to the top of Cima Moncucco. We continue in the same direction and, after descending again to an altitude of about 1670 meters, we begin to climb slowly again towards the west. After about one kilometre we reach a more demanding climb, after which we finally reach the top of Monte Bar.
For the return we decide to go down to see the new Capanna Monte Bar, inaugurated in 2016 and built next to the old building. The latter was demolished and only the base remains, which now serves as a terrace.
After reaching the hut we continue our trip along the road that leads to Piandanazzo and then we continue along the path that leads to Alpe Pietrarossa.
Once we have reached the point at 1600 metres (point 1 on the map) we would have liked to have followed the path that climbs to the inlet already reached in the morning (point 3). Unfortunately it no longer exists and so we had to go off-piste between the grassy slopes until we reached the ridge above (point 2). Nothing serious anyway. Alternatively, you can take the slightly longer path that passes through Alpe Pietrarossa.
From point 2 we go back along the path made in the morning to Alpe Matro and from there we descend again to the road in Val di Serdena.
During the trip we found water only at Alpe Matro and Piandanazzo. At the hut there was a fountain but it was closed.
